Weightloss Doesn't Begin In The Gym

Imagine Mean girl me trying to beat myself into the gym, fronting like I’m in beast mode doing high intensity sprints like a cheetah with a rhino ass

FEAR?  WHAT FEAR?  I AM A GODDESS, NINJA.  WATCH ME ROAR MY WAY INTO A WHOLE NEW ME.  Cause – Who’s the boss?  I’M THE BOSS.  THAT’S RIGHT.  THE LADY BOSS. 

Um no.  That is how I broke my foot.  Which is a story for a different treadmill day.

From someone who sambaed her way into a slimmer, healthier version of herself (after trying all the crazy ass hard ways) I am a firm believer that when it comes to losing weight exercise is not the first place we want to start.  The way of the one hot mother is all about beginning with pleasure and easing your way into deep nutrition and movement.

But, let us back our way into this… because you know I love the bass (see #5)

If you are in the numbers game and looking to lose a few pounds, and we know a calorie is not a calorie and we cannot exercise our way out of sugar spikes and donut dives (1, 2, 3)   it would seem to make sense that we focus on our diet.  Because this is where the magic happens. 

I can testify to the fact that 90% of weight loss is done from the inside out by the QUALITY of food you CONSISTENTLY choose to put on the end of your spoon.  In fact, this is how I lost 50 pounds and kept it off for ten years, with one husband, two jobs, three kids, four houses and many many pounds of chocolate and bacon later.

But if just information around what to eat was the answer we would all have 6 pack abs and million dollar back accounts.  Knowledge is power.  But SELF knowledge and how to follow through is EVERYTHING.

Every client I’ve worked with and an overwhelming majority of the questions I get sound like “I know how to eat healthy I just don’t know how to stick to it”.

Ah.  And there it is- the secret sauce – you must begin with the end in mind.  With the mindset of the person you are striving to be. 

THIS IS WHY WE START WITH PLEASURE.   

Regardless of your WHY (get the guy, wear the clothes, rock out the bathing suit or just look good in your nudie one… ) we all think that somehow when we arrive to this end goal we will feel better.  But when you make your feel better criteria  on an out there, maybe someday, when I look a certain kind of way that is how you arrive to the end of the day and think what’s the point anyway.   This is when your diet dies another death with the promise to begin another day.

But here is the thing.  Losing weight is not a set of rules.  It is a FEELING you must learn how to cultivate.  And one that you can create right now. 

Because when you feel GOOD you make better choices with food.  And when you make better choices with food your body starts to feel better.  And when your body starts to feel better you start to move it a little more.  And when you start shaking your feel good body – well, than sister you are on the path to becoming a leopard with a lady boss kinda ass.
